MySIA: Job-Matching App for Silver Agers

A solution by WisR submitted to Fight marginalization in Vienna

WisR is an online platform matching young entrepreneurs and companies with elderly and retired people (Silver Agers) for project-based and part-time work. So on the one hand, Silver Agers get re-integrated into society and experience appreciation and on the other hand, companies regain access to their experience and expertise that otherwise would have been lost.

One Page Summary

The challenge that we are addressing is the marginalization of Viennese and Austrian citizens over the age of 50 who after retirement or through age-discrimination are increasingly being ostracized from society.

Our proposed solution is to develop MySIA, a Job-Matching-App for businesses and Silver Agers (individuals over the age of 50) that uses a proprietary matching algorithm that is based on job categories, demographic information, and other data points we find vital to successful matches that are not currently assessed such as soft skills and values.

Our App will reduce the growing divide between Silver Agers and society by integrating them back into working life thus building the bridge for a happy and communal society based on mutual trust and cooperation.
Concerning a workable solution to the our rapidly aging society, we are also working on an innovative and inclusive communications strategy (videos and social media content) that will not only address the needs of the target demographic of Silver Agers but include and inspire them to become active in the job market. It is only then that outdated and patently false stereotypes of Silver Agers can be broken. Both sides, the young and the old are mutual and valued contributors to society and we want to build the bridge between the two so that they begin to value one another for who they really are, not through preconceived notions and false perceptions.

The App’s features and functionality is as follows:

  • Technological Smart Matching development which will incorporate soft skills and values amongst standard criteria. This will be distinct from currently available recruiting software that only focuses on basic criteria such as age and work experience.
  • Optimized usability for Silver Agers which means lowering the technical barrier for our target demographic
  • Development and promotion of new work models, personalized marketing solutions, etc.

The online platform will address the needs of Silver Agers by simplifying their entry to the online-marketplace for jobs and projects through responsive design. This is done to ensure that the target group, who primarily uses smartphones and tablets to browse the internet, have an easy entry point to the job market. What is extremely important is the development of a user interface (UI) design for the elderly that will be focused on intuitive use so that Silver Agers with less technical skills also face no barrier to the job market. An online tax calculator will allow retired Silver Agers the ability to immediately see how much they will make after-tax and how their proposed job will be taxed simplifying the often opaque and overly complex nature of taxes and giving the target group concrete and actionable information that will increase their desire to work.
