Brotpiloten meets

A solution by Brotpiloten submitted to Fight marginalization in Vienna

Brotpiloten meets enables integration via the wide topic of bread & foodwaste: Day old bakery products that would otherwise be wasted get a second chance by being sold at a cheap price by persons with a migrational background. Thus, the latter get a new chance to (labour market) integration. Day-old bread serves as a medium of a unique message that combines foodwaste solutions with integration.

One Page Summary

A migrational background is often a hurdle to properly integrate into Austrian society.

Farmers or street markets are great spaces for mutual exchange between different groups of society. They are places where people of a lot of different backgrounds come together and mingle.

We want to use the medium "day old bread" - as a proven concept - to foster integration and mutual understanding right on these markets. The topic of foodwaste nowadays attracts a wide variety of people. Be it the evermore tendency to consume sustainably or simply the cheap access to food. At Brotpiloten, we experienced both reasons.

Persons with a migrational background become market vendors & self-employed & -reliant actors in the bread-waste business. Brotpiloten* enables them through workshops, the provision of equipment, market start-up basics and legal advice, a motivated team & logistics support.

We have experienced a lot of positive resonance of a wide variety of groups in society around the topic of foodwaste and that's a great opportunity to put a positive image on migrants as they are becoming a part of the project and participating in the center of society.
