Dr. Nicolas Nicolaou is a senior scientist and algorithms engineer at Algolysis. His main research interests lie in the areas of distributed systems, design and analysis of fault-tolerant distributed and parallel algorithms, and the design of algorithms for mobile and sensor networks. He has extensive project management experience and over than 5 years of academic teaching experience. He received funding and successfully executed projects from the Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation (2010-2011) and the European Commission as an Intra-European Marie-Curie Fellowship (2014-2016). He has been designing and implementing algorithms for more than 10 years. He designed protocols for the NS2 and NS3 network simulators, and deployed software in distributed environments. He also has programmed in low level languages to implement algorithms to run on embedded voting hardware. He received a service award from the State of Connecticut for his contributions in the US presidential elections of 2008. Through his experience he also developed and deployed various applications for the web, utilizing a number of web technologies and programming languages. He has supervised a number of undergraduate and graduate level students and taught a number of undergraduate courses through positions he held as a visiting lecturer in the University of Cyprus, a special scientist at the Cyprus University of Technology, and at the University of Connecticut. His research work was published in top-tier conferences and journals.
With the intent to bridge the gap between his academic work and industry, Nicolas co-founded Algolysis Ltd in 2014, to apply his skills and knowledge in the development of innovative ICT products and services.
