I moved to Lisbon from South Africa when I was young. I studied engineering at Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa (ISEL) and Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), in Lisbon. I concluded my masters (before the pre-Bologna system) in Robotics and Control working at Institute for Systems and Robotics at IST. With encouragement from my adviser, Dr. Pedro Lima, I started my PhD at the MIT Portugal Programe. I moved to Boston and worked with my co-adviser Dr. Una-May O'Reilly, in the ALFA Group, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL). I am currently a professor in the Electronics, Telecommunications and Computer Engineering Department (ADEETC) at ISEL. As an entrepreneur, I co-founded with four other associates ETConcept, a company that provides engineering services and also co-founded, with my wife Yvonne Weber, Fazenda & Weber, a company that invests and manages real-estate.
