One Page Summary

Patyna Future Proof: Combine online & offline activities to connect elderly in low density areas.

For the issues Patyna is facing, we propose to combine online and offline activities, that are embedded in a local community centre.

We concretely propose two activities: Fitness Online and Coffeetime Online.

These are two very engaging, fun and personalized activities that, we experienced, can contribute to the wellbeing of elderly people, living independently at home.

Both activities are facilitated by telecommunication technology, like Skype, but we use an ever user-friendlier program, that even elderly people with little computer experience, can employ.

When these activities are embedded in a local community centre, there are various agents of various levels that might benefit.

Individual: For example Mrs de Vries from the Challenge description: She can exercise regularly which is good for her health. Having a nice, social conversation is great to combat feeling of loneliness. She can also visit the community centre where there are activities organized and meet her fellow fitness participants in real life.

Community: In low density areas, social cohesion and a physical meeting place is crucial. When online and offline activities are combined, this helps people to connect and interact with each other and in co-creation come up with activities that matter.

Organizational: Patyna outlined several issues in the Challenge description, that are related to being a care provider in a low density area. We believe that innovative activities, like Fitness Online, that are enabled by digital technology, can support Patyna with handling these issues, and thus become Future Proof.
