Über den Tellerand (‘beyond your plate’ in English) is a commonly used German expression for open-mindedness. Our organisation was founded in 2013 and is based in Berlin. Since then we have been actively contributing to the process of refugee integration into society and a foreign social context. We do so by creating spaces that facilitate intercultural encounters and exchange and thereby encourage friendships between locals and newcomers. Prejudices are diminished on both sides, while openness and respect are promoted as well as language skills and intercultural knowledge. Our network already includes intercultural communities in over 30 cities, which we call satellites. Also there, we bring together people
form different cultures in culinary, creative and sporting events and promote sustainable friendship building.
