Since 1853, Stockholm City Mission has been working to make Stockholm a more compassionate city for all, a community where everyone has access to housing, education and jobs. Stockholm City Mission is a not-for-profit organization that has always worked to provide emergency assistance and find long-term solutions for vulnerable groups. Over 160 years ago, the organization started free-of-charge schools and orphanages, shelters and maternity homes - all through private donations.

Stockholm City Mission has the same vision in 2018 and still works to reduce vulnerability and contribute to long-term change. Today, Stockholm City Mission offers secondary and higher education through six high schools and a community college as Sweden's largest educational not-for-profit organization. Social work is complemented by social businesses where people and things get a second chance through job integration, for example in one of our 15 second hand stores. Within the area of social work, Stockholm City Mission today provides almost 40 services for people in homelessness, the elderly, immigrants, people suffering from mental illnesses as well as children and young people. The not-for-profit organization employs 300 paid employees and nearly 400 volunteers.
