(Pitched: 15/04/2018)

One Page Summary

The University of Angers is looking for a solution in fields of accessible tourism. The aim is to provide a digital tool and offer the first social and collective travel guide for accessibility, which is

• Regularly updated
• Filled up with complete lists, photos, feedback
• Easy-to-read
• Easy-to-navigate
We fixed all these points in our following project proposal.

Creating a new platform
What´s an innovation about a platform for accessible tourism in the internet? There are already existing hundreds of Websites and evaluation tools which offer different accessible accommodations, leisure activities and touristic offers. What is the special point of our idea?
We are working in the field of accessible tourism for more than 15 years now. During this period we collected a lot of experiences and data, developed the capito quality standard and improved the capito method.
capito is the department where we handle with topics around accessibility and we take it for granted campaigning for ALL groups of people with disabilities. That’s why we are in permanent exchange with local organisations for disabilities.
It is essential for people with disabilities to find reliable ways of planning and organising their trips and journeys in advance. There must not be any uncertainty.
Therefor we will develop a new inclusive-innovative-interactive platform including an APP (which is optional) using our experiences and knowledge.

Why choosing capito?
We already created an evaluation database and did a lot of analyses. We take into consideration all existing norms. But the most important thing for us wasn´t just collecting norms. It is absolutely necessary and we take it as grant to take needs from people with disabilities into consideration.
To get the needs of the target groups directly into the questionnaire we build focus groups. It was a long process to discuss all important needs and to decide, which questions are minimum requirements and which of them are expert not binding recommendations or best practice. To give you an example: it is absolutely necessary for wheelchair users, to find a stageless entrance to be able to enter a building (minimum requirement). But it would be comfortable to find a canopied way from the parking space to the entrance of a building (expert not binding recommendation) because wheelchair users can´t hold an umbrella that easy.
We are in permanent exchange with organisations for the disabled and in direct contact with different target groups.
The result is an evaluation questionnaire for all target groups
• Wheelchair users
• People with mobility restrictions
• People with learning difficulties
• People with visual impairment
• Blind people
• People with hearing impairment
• Families with infants and people with allergies and intolerances (important in tourism sector)

which is divided in
• minimum requirements
• expert recommendations
• Best practise recommendations

Description of the database
Within the database you are able to create all kind of questionnaires for all kind of disabilities. First you choose the building/activity you want to evaluate.
e.g.
• public transport
• museum
• playground
• public bath
• accommodation
• shop
• restaurant
• hiking path
• school
• church
and many more. After individualising the questionnaire by defining names for different rooms, doors etc. you print it out or fill it out on your tablet or smartphone. After completing the evaluation the database will create the interpretation which is public for everyone. Costumers are able to read the full questionnaire containing all questions, answers, information about measured lengths etc. Furthermore they can see for which target group a specific answer is norm or absolutely necessary and which questions are experts´ recommendations. Pictograms show, how many questions are fulfilled and the percentage for every single target group.
We already implemented a platform, which you can find here:

What is the difference to other competitors?
We do have:
valid information
Other databases often work with questionnaires which are non valid.
• complete questionnaires
Other organisations couldn´t develop a complete database, including all norms for all target groups and all tourism offers because of a missing business model.
• all kinds of disabilities
Others specialize on people with mobility restrictions. We represent all people with disabilities and provide all information in an accessible form.
transparent information
Other platforms do not offer their full questionnaires. We do offer every questionnaire we used in public, to make the evaluation and the interpretation as highly transparent as possible. Every costumer with disabilities can make a decision on his own.

Working together with capito means to get a professional, tested, valid, complete tool, which has been developed using a co-creation process between various organisations and experts and capito.
