In the second half of the 19th century was founded the Guild of Artists. His cultural and poetic activities, as well as the dancing evenings were events of great relevance, at that time in the city of Castelo Branco.
At the end of the 19th century, the members of the Guild of Artists diverged from each other, and the association was eventually extinguished. From this extinction resulted two associations: "Centro Artistico Albicastrense" and "Clube de Castelo Branco".
The "Centro Artístico Albicastrense" was founded on February 23, 1908, by artists, (worker, one who exercises an art), under the idea of the artist Manuel de Oliveira Leitão.
The foundation of the Center is due to the lower class, in contrast to other associations existing at the time in the city of Castelo Branco. After its foundation, in 1908, the "Centro Artístico Albicastrense" was installed in a house leased in the S. João.
In 1912, the collective settled on the street of Santa Maria, where it still has its own headquarters. The headquarters of the Centro Artistico Albicastrense was bought in the same decade.
Between the thirties and sixties of the twentieth century, the "Centro Artístico Albicastrense", together with the Assembly of Castelo Branco and the "Clube de Castelo Branco", were the three major albicastrenses associations and had social priorities.
Throughout its history, the  Center has sought to serve the culture and albicastrense community. Currently, we intend to respect the history and fulfill the mission that this collective has had since always.
