Bringing innovative techniques to local designers

A solution by Elzinga van der Krieke submitted to Find & trigger hidden entrepreneurship

Elzinga and Van der Krieke helps local designers to scale up their production and build sustainable business plans using innovative techniques like plastic molding, on a circular way. This results in designers and craftspeople who can remain in the rural area, use local waste material to produce their products and support the local economy.

One Page Summary

Elzinga and Van der Krieke enables designers from the north of the Netherlands to produce their design and contribute to the circular economy. With our solution, we demonstrate that is possible for local designers to produce their products locally and earn a living at the same time. Our solution helps designers to improve the potential of their design by local, cheaper and easier production:
• local designers can produce more products at once and start a better business;
• enables the hire of local people, so they can stay and work in the area instead of moving to urban areas;
• promotes the reuse of local waste, such as broken garden chairs. These chairs can be shredded and used in the production process (and this stimulates the local and circular economy).
Our company, Elzinga and Van der Krieke, will start an inspirational competition to find and trigger local designers to think about our new production techniques and the possibilities these techniques can offer them when they want to turn their hobby into a business.
Contribute a sustainable production process
The main source of base material is locally produced synthetic waste. With the use of these materials we recycle waste and contribute to the circular economy. During the past months, we tested our concept and now we’re ready to help more designers with their production process. Our goal is to reach more local designers and tell them about how we provide new ways for them to start their own business.
Competition
Our solution consists of organizing a competition in which two local designers can win the opportunity to make their design ready for production. We will provide them with advice on the design of the matrix, which will be used to produce their design. Afterwards, their design will be used to produce 200 copies of the same product.
Promotion campaign
Before and during this competition, we start a promotion campaign that will inform local entrepreneurs about the new production possibilities that our company can provide for local businesses. Furthermore, we also would want to organize four workshops in the north of the Netherlands to make our concept known to a greater audience.
When the products of two designers have been produced, we can use a few to promote the opportunities brought on by the creativity of local designers. For challenge owner SpareSpace, the production process of our company is a useful new way to convert the power of creative entrepreneurs into the actual production of marketable products. The implementation of this project helps to locate new entrepreneurs, enables them to produce their products locally and, from a higher level, also contributes to the local economy.
