One Page Summary

The City Council of Madrid will open a Citizens’ Attention Office designed for owners' communities (CCVV) to be informed of the benefits of sustainable roofs, the best technical solutions, aid, costs and financing possibilities. This service will be developed in person, by telephone and through an Internet portal.

¿How will this service work? Those CCVV that request it, will receive the free visit of professionals who will make a proposal of design of Co-Roofing, according to the specificities of the space. These professionals will be consultants of private companies that have been previously certified as collaborating entities of the City Council of Madrid for this project.

How will the collaborating companies be chosen? The collaborating companies will be chosen according to criteria of experience, technical and economic capacity, and socio-environmental. The commitment of these companies is to make economic offers to CCVV, according with the general guidelines set out in the program: technical solution, design of spaces for recreation, energy criteria, financing, etc.

Depending on the demand, the office will certify between 3 and 10 companies that will be responsible for conducting the visits. These will be assigned randomly or by location criteria. We will must to develop an action protocol to guarantee that the quality of the service is always the same and does not depend on the company in particular.

What will companies want to collaborate with the City Council? Because when a CCVV decides to install a Co-Roofing on its roof, it will hire the company that made the visit and the offer.

There are two barriers in this approach. On the one hand, we must offer the CCVV possibilities to finance the installation. And on the other hand, it is not easy to convince CCVV to approve the hiring of this kind of work. Thus, Co-Roofing will do 4 additional tasks:

1. The Office will negotiate with one or several Banks general conditions of financing to the CCVV. So, those CCVV that meet certain requirements, can easily and quickly access the credit.
2. The Office will must be work for made an agreement with the “Colegio Profesional de Administradores de Fincas de Madrid” to be partners of the Project. The aim of this agreement is to introduce the debate of the benefits of install a Co-Roofing in all the CCVV meetings.
3. To help make the initiative a success, the City Council will carry out a multiplatform communication campaign under the slogan "Touching the Sky of Madrid".
4. The City Council will study whether the installation of Co-Roofing can be considered within the aid for energy rehabilitation of housing.

If we achieve these 4 objectives, probably the future picture of our city will be similar than the one we choose to illustrate our pitch.

So important than this public service we describe before, is the modular solution we design for the roofs of Madrid. The ad hoc design that we present aims to satisfy the needs arising from the installation and maintenance of a green roof in the environmental reality of Madrid city.

As main advantages we can highlight the multiple design possibilities. The innumerable combinations allow you to adapt to any space and minimize the time required for installation and costs.

The basic module is 1.20 X 1.20 X 0.20 and has a variable height of 10, 20 or 30 cm. of live substrate to be able to plant different types of plants. It is made of recycled plastic and its design gives it a great resistance capacity.

The different receptacles that will be placed below the surface, will serve to accumulate rainwater or irrigation. Thus, through capillarity, the plants will have always the necessary humidity.

At the same time, a float will control the water level, opening the drip irrigation at times of greatest need. For the moments of excess, it would be evacuated by rainwater systems due to overflows. In this way, our module will allow different types of vegetation, depending on the structural possibilities and the desired use.

What are the main advantages of a Co-Roofing? It serves as thermal insulation, especially for high floors. It produces oxygen and consumes carbon dioxide. Reduces the noise of the rain, as well as the arrival of rainwater to the streets. Reduces the heat island effect.

In addition, new zones are created for the coexistence and socialization of the neighbours and the value of the property is increased.
