One Page Summary

Families raising children with disabilities can become marginalized from mainstream society in a number of ways. They have no choice but to advocate for a wide range of support -- assistance with health care, finding solutions to mobility challenges, procuring learning-enabling computer softwares -- to name only a few. It is when a disabled child is born into a family that the support of the community is needed the most. Normally, new families come to be members of a local community through relationships formed on the playground. However, the parents of disabled children soon realize that there is no point in going to the playground, because the lack of proper equipment that is adequate for their children’s needs means that the playground cannot give them the freedom it guarantees to the children of average families. Thus, the playground being the first platform for socialization both for parents and children, it is exactly when they need social contact the most when families raising disabled children become isolated and left alone with their problems and worries. Those who are raising disabled children are unable to participate in social activities, so they are easily marginalized: they become invisible for the general society. The social relationships of stay-at-home mums quickly disappear, resulting in difficulties reintegrating into the labour market, as well. Another common difficulty is for non-disabled children to accommodate the disabled ones, as there is no platform for them to meet.  MagikMe's solution is innovative because by providing playground equipment for every kid, disabled and non-disabled alike, it makes the playground as a social scene accessible for everyone
