Cooperation and work for migrants

Help us to introduce migrants into the Andalusian labour market. We need solutions to train them and let them become part of the community.

Description

Each week, the Malaga Region is welcoming an increasing number of refugees and migrants. Andalucia already has an unemployment rate of 24% (Guardian), with reports showing that the immigrant unemployment rate is greater than 60% (ASIT). When they arrive, they do not come with the needed skills or language ability to be able to obtain jobs to sustain themselves. With this current trend, the refugee/immigrant community is more vulnerable to sex trade, the black market and human trafficking. Therefore, there is a need to integrate them in the regional labor market, working both on the demand (job seekers) and supply side (employers).. Regarding the latter (employers), they are not used to working and employing this group of workers, therefore they need instruments to better understand how to integrate migrants in their companies/activities.

In order to build refugee/migrant-benefitting communities, they need jobs. In order to work, they must be trained. Help us to introduce refugees/migrants into the Malaga labor market with solutions to help them become part of the community.

Target

The Immigrant Community in Malaga Province

The Malaga province has a population of over 1.5 million people. According to a study done by  the IOM in October 2017, Spain has received 19,067 migrants. Of that number, 14,753 have arrived by sea, and 4,314 of them have come by land. The IOM states that this number, “represents a 120% increase when compared to the same period in 2016.”According to the UNHCR, a refugee is defined as “people outside their country of origin because of feared persecution, conflict, violence or other circumstances that have seriously disturbed public order, and who, as a result, require international protection.”
Migrants are people who “choose to move not because of a direct threat of persecution or death, but mainly to improve their lives by finding work, or for education, family reunion or other reasons.”

Bancosol currently works with different entities in the area to provide food for the immigrants and refugees.
